I don’t want to buy a Vista machine and upgrade. I want to buy a brand new computer with Windows 7.

it will be a couple of weeks after the launch till you see the majority of computers shipped with 7 preinstalled ( this depends if the manufacters are making the models before the launch period and shipping them to stores for the realease date or not). you can still qualify for the free upgrade that many manufactures upgrade if you buy before then though. i might want to get a xp compatible model if you could though. as 7 is similar to vista.
The free ugprade system is in effect now.
New computers with it fully pre-installed shouldn’t be available until on or around the official release date of October 22.
